Sharon Marie Katakis

Sharon Marie “Sparkles” Katakis, age 77 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away in the company of family, on February 18, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio. Sharon was born on June 18, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio to Samuel Giovannucci and Dorothy (Martz) Giovannucci. She was the embodiment of family, an artist with a beautiful soul and her love of Christ and her faith were amazing gifts that she shared wholeheartedly with those she loved. Sharon attended Roger’s High School before marrying her first and only love, Jimmie E. Katakis. The couple raised 5 amazing children. She went to work with St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio where she formed amazing friendships with truly fantastic people. She immersed herself in serving not just God, but also her community. She volunteered time with so many wonderful organizations, such as, St. Louis Soup Kitchen and canvassed tirelessly to end abortion. The sanctity of life was something that was ingrained in the very fabric of her being. She had MANY roles through her life, but her favorite role was being a grandparent, and she cherished every moment spent with her children and grand and great grandchildren. Sharon is survived by her children, Jamie, Julie, Jennie, Sharon Jr. and Jimmie, as well as, grand children – (Jamie & Jeff: Leah Gryca, Sam Chipps, Kiara Gray, Michael Chipps & Sophia Chipps) (Julie: Zeus, Balthazar, Venus Silverfear, Siri & Mocha,) (Jennie: Kenny Fullenlove, Dustin Fullenlove, Gianna Rodriguez, Sammie Pecina & Santos Pecina,) (Sharon Jr: Jolene Purtee, Marcelene Barnhouse & Arya Arnold,) (Jimmie & Shelby: Josephine Katakis & River Katakis,) and great grandchildren (Gianna: Emilliano) (Sammie: Marcelo.) She is also survived by her siblings, Rocleen, Anita, Valerie & Samuel Giovannucci and you bet your bottom with a maiden name like Giovannucci, there are too many extended family members to list here and keep this obit in budget! Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 2:00 pm -6:00 pm at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, 1010 Westmoreland Ave, Napoleon, OH 43545 with a Rosary Service at 5:30 pm. Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 722 Monroe St., Napoleon, OH 43545 on Monday February 26, 2024 at 10:30 am, followed by a luncheon at the church. Sharon will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Ave, Toledo, OH 43615 with a graveside service at 1:30 pm following the lunch.
