Robert Hatfield

Robert “Bob” Hatfield, 88, of Hamler, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Vancrest of Holgate surrounded by his family. He was born in Grelton, Ohio on December 11, 1936 to the late Earnest and Julia (Van Dusen) Hatfield. Bob graduated from Liberty Center in 1955. After graduation he joined the Army for 2 years. On May 27, 1967 he married the love of his life, Nancy Joy. Bob went on to work for the Henry County Highway Department. Upon the retirement from Campbell Soup Company, he became the Maintenance Supervisor for the Village of Malinta. Bob was a big sports fan and loved both the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions, sharing that love with his family. The Liberty Center Tigers always carried a special place in his heart. His girls and grandson, Garrett, loved to pick on him during the LC and PH rivalry games. Bob and Nancy spent many weekends camping, and they could be found at Harrison Lake, often with the grandkids. Bob loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was also a Monroe Twp. volunteer fireman, and enjoyed the community pancake breakfasts on Saturday mornings. Bob loved going to PeeWee’s for his daily coffee, taking the girls, if they had been good. Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Nancy; daughters, Sheila (Mike) Brown, Shonda Hatfield (Marty Fisher), and Shelby (Kory) Bacon; Grandchildren, Garrett Brown, Bailey (Andy) Cumston, Grant Bacon (Audrey Phillips), Olivia Bacon, and Addisyn Bacon; great granddaughter Riley Cumston, with another on the way; and many nieces and nephews. He was a special grandpa to Alex, Jacob, and Austin Gebers and Breckin and Chayse Maas. Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Hatfield, Jr., and Bob Dome; and sisters, Betty Johnson, Virginia Copas, Donna Kline, and Margaret Hartman. Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday, May 26th, 2025 from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio with a Fireman’s service will take place at 7:30PM. A funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral an honorary procession to the Malinta Fire Department, where a last call and military honors will take place. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Vancrest of Holgate for their compassionate care of Bob-O!!
