Dietrich Shirley

Shirley Y. Dietrich , 87 , of Malinta, Ohio passed away quietly May 10, 2013 at Henry County Hospital of Napoleon, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 4, 1925 in Fulton County, Ohio to the late Clyde & Alice (Plummer) Smith. On October 6, 1946 she married Jay W. Dietrich, who preceded her in death on October 14, 1992. She graduated from Toledo Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps from 1943-1946. She was a Registered Nurse at Heller Memorial Hospital, The Head Start Program, Migrant Ministries and worked for several local physicians. She organized and developed Family Planning covering the five county region, which is now known as Women and Family Services. where she was executive director for 10 years. She retired from Northcrest Nursing Home at the age of 78. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate since 1947. She served on the Christian Education Board, was a Youth Advisor, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Visitation Team, and was a Church Elder for 6 years. She loved to read, fish, dance and spend summers with family and friends at her cottage on Mullet Lake, Michigan, where she taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to water ski. She is survived by daughters, Jane Brent of Napoleon and Kathy "Taff" (Sam) Cline of Delta; grandchildren, Pete (Stacy) Brent of Malinta, Robin (Jim) Foster of Liberty Center; great-grandchildren, Evan, Zachary and Riley Brent, Jesse and David Foster. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jim Dietrich, son-in-law, Dale Brent, and granddaughters, Victoria Y. Foster and Bailey Grace Brent. and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lucy Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate where a meal will follow the service. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 2- 8 p.m. on Monday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
