Richard James “Jim” Vajen, 81, of Napoleon, Ohio died Sunday, Nov. 15th, 2020 at Mercy Defiance Hospital. He was born May 12, 1939 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Chalmer and Helen (Harmon) Vajen. On September 24, 1960, he married Edna Ellerbrock and she preceded him in death on February 16th, 2018. Jim was a lifelong farmer and worked in the maintenance department for Campbell Soup Co. for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. He was also a member of the Napoleon American Legion and VFW. He is survived by daughters, Deborah (Larry) LaForrest, Barbara Baumann, and Pamela (Bedford) Miller, all of Napoleon; grandchildren, Brent (Emily) Gerken and Blake (Morgan) Gerken; step grandchildren, Neidera LaForrest and Jennifer Oliver; great grandchildren, Eliza and Cora Gerken; step great granddaughter, Kinsley Hays; and a brother, Herbert Vajen of The Villages, Florida. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 18th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon and a livestream will be available at www.stpaulnapoleon.org A private graveside will be held at Florida Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veteran Posts. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the church. Masks and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Henry County Humane Society or the St. Paul Prayer Shaw Ministry group.
