John Robert Hartzell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John Robert Hartzell, 82, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022. He was born in Defiance, Ohio on February 4, 1940 to Victor and Margaret (Walentic) Hartzell. John was a 1957 graduate of Defiance High School and worked as a licensed plumber and pipefitter for Local #50 until he retired. John proudly served his country in the US Army. On October 30, 1965 John married Peggy Ann Hefflinger. John was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Napoleon. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and shooting pool in local tournaments. John was an accomplished woodworker and built his own home. He was also a talented welder and built 2 custom motorcycles. John was very fond of his faithful canine companions. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Werner, and Toby (Terri) Hartzell; former wife, Peggy Arroyo; grandchildren, Callie Werner, Regina Werner, Sarah Hartzell, and Natalie Hartzell; siblings, Victor Jr. (Helen) Hartzell, Rita Hasselschwert, Gerald (Julie) Hartzell, Roger (Jane) Hartzell, Tony Hartzell, Donald “Bo” (Jeanie) Hartzell; brother-in-law, Faye Greene; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Paul; sisters, Joanne, Martha, Marianne, Elizabeth, Suzanne, and Sarah;nephew, Michael; and brother-in-law, Norman Hasselschwert. Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Interment at the church cemetery will follow with military honors.
