Charla Jean (Herge) Brentlinger, age 94, a life-long resident of Henry County, Ohio, and formerly of Malinta and Napoleon, Ohio, died on June 18th, 2021. Her legacy … Jean was born on August 13, 1926, in Monroe Township, Henry County, Ohio, to Clement (Clem) and Ethel (Billig) Eberle. In 1944, after graduating from Malinta-Grelton High School, she married her first husband, James Frederick Herge of Malinta, Ohio (deceased 12/18/1973). In 1977, Jean married her second husband, James Andrew Brentlinger of Swanton, Ohio (deceased 3/24/2016). Jean worked for 21 years at the Campbell Soup Plant in Napoleon, Ohio, and helped with her parents’ farm located in Elery, Ohio. Her interests included traveling, dancing, sewing, crafts and flowers. Jean was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Holgate, Ohio, and she had worked on various Church committees. Being involved in other community activities for many years, Jean also volunteered at the Henry County Hospital Gift Shop, served as a 4-H Advisor, and was a Malinta-Grelton Band Booster. Her family … Jean was devoted to her beloved family, and is survived by her daughter, Candice Elliott (Walter Calmese) of Tucson, Arizona; two grandchildren, Shari L. Blackwood (Scott) of Sylvania, Ohio, and Nicholas Elliott of Wenatchee, Washington; five great grandchildren, twins Justin Michael Blackwood of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jared Evan Blackwood of Jackson, Michigan, Cameron E. Blackwood (Ashley) of Gahanna, Ohio, Sage Elliott Keller of Chandler, Arizona, and Tyla Ames of Mesa, Arizona; one great great grandchild, Rowan Blackwood of Gahanna, Ohio; along with two step-sons, Tom Brentlinger, and Terry Brentlinger; one step-daughter, Beth Tanner; six step-grandchildren, Andrew Brentlinger, Adam Brentlinger, Sarah LaBerdia, Tiffani Brentlinger, Brian Brentlinger, and Remi Brentlinger, and their families; and her nephew, Terry Dachenhaus of Danville, Kentucky. Jean is preceded in death by her first husband, James Frederick Herge; her second husband, James Andrew Brentlinger; her oldest daughter, Kay Ann (Bauer) Hanefeld; her sister, Neila Dachenhaus; and her parents, Ethel and Clement Eberle. Her farewell services … Family and friends will be received at Rodenberger/Gray Funeral Home, 1010 Westmoreland Avenue, Napoleon, Ohio, on Friday, June 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. After this service, a luncheon will take place at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Holgate, Ohio, for family and friends, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The Celebration of Jean’s life will be held immediately thereafter at the Church, with Pastor David Orr officiating, along with Pastor Genter, soloist. Burial will be at the main Mausoleum Chapel, Riverview Memory Gardens, 29231 County Road 424, Defiance, Ohio following the Celebration of life service.
