Bernice Elling Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bernice E. Elling, 86, of Napoleon, Ohio died Monday, June 13th, 2022 at the Toledo Hospital. She was born December 8, 1935 in Ridgeville Township to the late August and Marie (Schweinhagen) Schnitkey. On November 25, 1956, she married Walter Elling at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, Ohio and he preceded her in death on March 24th, 1988. Bernice was a 1953 graduate of Ridgeville High School. She started work at La Choy in Archbold for a short time and then worked as the secretary for the Henry County Veterans Office for many years. Bernice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon and the Bert G. Taylor American Legion#300 Auxiliary. She enjoyed her lunchtime with friends, playing cards, spending time with friends and family, and listening to local sports on the radio. She is survived by children, Linda (Bill) Osolin, Donna (Mark) Schwiebert, Laurie Elling, and David Elling; grandchildren, Krista (Shannon) Shipley and Adam (Carol) Schwiebert; great grandchildren, Leah and Garrett Shipley and Emma Schwiebert; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Elling, Marie Schnitkey, and Juanita Schnitkey. She was also preceded in death by a stillborn daughter and siblings, Donald and Frank Schnitkey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21st at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3-7 p.m. at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul LCC Comfort Dog Charity, Gideon’s International, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
