Wilma M. Sonneberg

Wilma M. Sonnenberg, 84, of Napoleon, Ohio died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. She was born on October 22, 1929 in Deshler, Ohio to the late Samuel Fred & Emma K. (Von Fintel) Hoops. On September 24, 1950, she married Paul C. Sonnenberg at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, who preceded her in death on October 8, 1988. Wilma was a homemaker and formerly worked part-time as a cook for Holiday Inn, Napoleon. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp. , where she was a former Sunday school teacher, choir member for over 40 years and member of the Women of Life. She was the 1989 Henry County Woman of the Year, member of the former Henry County Homemakers and Turkeyfoot Trotters Square Dance Club, volunteered at Sauder Village, Archbold and advisor for Maumee Valley 4-H Club. She also enjoyed playing cards with various card clubs and friends, cheering for the Buckeyes, gardening, baking, walking, and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Jacalyn (Ted) Ripke of Ridgeville Corners, Luana (Keith) Erford of Hamler, Lynette (Tom) Hulbert of Defiance, Carey Sonnenberg, Loren (Debra) Sonnenberg, and Joel (Desiree) Sonnenberg, all of Napoleon, grandchildren; Benjamin (Luvena) Ripke, T. Samuel Ripke, Bret (Tobi) Ripke, Andrew (Sarah) Nagel, Renee (Chris) Barton, Jennifer Nagel, Craig Erford, Haley (Benjamin) Fryman, Michelle (Jordan) Inbody, Kylie Hulbert, Jonathon Hulbert, Ty Hulbert, Kelly Sonnenberg, Kara (Kurt) Shroyer, Elissa Sonnenberg, Devon Sonnenberg, Alexa Sonnenberg, and Reid Sonnenberg, great grandchildren; Austin, McKayla, Zoey, Jaci, Wyat, Theo, and Lexi Ripke, Maggi & Kenzi Nagel, Lucy & Dayla Fryman, and Monroe, Tatum, and Bailey Barton, brothers; Don (Millie) Hoops of Deshler, Vic Hoops of Hamler, sisters; Emma (Marvin) Brandt of Defiance, Arlene McDougle of Ottawa, sisters-in-law, Virginia Hoops of Flint, Michigan, Marie Hoops of Bowling Green, and Mildred Sonnenberg of Liberty Center. She was preceded in death by sisters; Marie Gerken, Norma Schwiebert, and Louise Miller, and brothers; Edgar, Elroy, Fred, and Melvin Hoops. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb.25 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
