Shirley A. Distel

Shirley A. Distel, 94, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the early morning of July 4, 2024, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. She was born on October 20, 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late James and Lucille (Barcome) Pardee. On January 27, 1951, she married Joseph J. Distel in Waterford, Michigan, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1998. Shirley was a homemaker and also worked in the Auditing Department at Sears. She was a devoted member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon and actively participated in the Rosary Altar Guild. Additionally, she led the funeral meal committee for many years. Apart from her church activities, Shirley dedicated five years to serving as a Girl Scout Leader in the community. In 2008, she was honored with the title “Senior Citizen of the Year” for her outstanding volunteer work and positive influence on the community. Over the years, Shirley developed many friendships while crafting and painting projects at the Henry County Senior Center. She was always active and enjoyed line dancing with “the girls." In her spare time, Shirley was an avid quilter, creating cherished quilts for family members and contributing several to local auctions and raffles, including the annual Church holiday bazaar. Shirley is survived by her children, Joseph (Kathi) Distel, Kathy (Kyle) Traxler, and Barbara Wilson; grandchildren, Laurie Meyer, Jeremy (Tara) Distel, Nikki (Eric) Evans, Derek (Rebecca) Distel, Lisa (Shawn) Thompson, Adam Muncy, Jennifer (April) Jones, Chrissy (Mike) Logan, Todd Brooks, Alita (Andy) Bowers, Josh Saputo, Sarah (Ryan) Zellner, 23 great grandchildren and twin great-grandchildren due in January, 8 great-great grandchildren and 1 due in November and 1 due in January, daughter-in-law, Donna Distel, sons-in-law, Leonard Muncy and Scott Saputo. She was also preceded in death by her children, Gerald “Jerry” Distel, Susan “Susie” Muncy and Karen Saputo; grandson, Logan Brooks, and siblings, Patricia Rice and Elaine Cottrell. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 9th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3-7 PM at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio.
