Richard Cobb

Richard Bryson Cobb, age 80, of Napoleon, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. Dick was born in Flint, MI on August 13, 1937 to Alex and Frances (Woodrich) Cobb. His childhood was spent primarily in Quincy, Illinois, but he attended four different high schools, graduating from Napoleon in 1955. He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. On May 5, 1957 Dick married Constance Good and they had 60 wonderful years together. After discharge from the Navy Dick began working at the Campbell Soup Co and enrolled in Bowling Green State University. He graduated in 1963 with a BS degree in business administration. He continued his career at Campbell's becoming Plant Manager of the V8 plant, and then Plant Manager of German Village Noodle plant in Wauseon, Ohio, retiring in 1998. Dick and Connie raised 4 children in Napoleon. Dick was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed travel with friends and family. Many great times were spent on the Maumee River, boating and skiing; camping in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Kentucky. There were years of family vacations to various states as well as Canada and Mexico. There were many trips in his RV to OSU games. Dick was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Napoleon where he served as church deacon. He also served on the United Way Board of Henry County for several years. Dick and Connie built a retirement home in Goodhart, MI and many years of fun were enjoyed snowmobiling and beach going at the beloved Okatipi. Dick was a very active citizen of Goodhart, MI. He served on various committees and boards including Emmet County M119 Tunnel of Trees Heritage Highway. He also served on the Emmet County Zoning Board and was very active in several area snowmobile clubs in Northern Michigan and served as President of Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club. Dick and Connie moved back to Napoleon in 2015. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary J. McGeehan, grandsons Jess Babcock and Carl Rohrs. He is survived by his loving wife Connie, daughter, Cathy (Mark) DeMichiei, son, Dick (Mary) Cobb, son, Rob (Ginger) Cobb, and daughter, Leigh Ann (Tom) Babcock. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Chris) Smith-Collins, Katelyn (Tim) Slechta, Justin (Amy) Cobb, Alex (Jessica) Cobb, Tyler (Jenell) Cobb, Tim (Courtney) Cobb, Seth (Melanie) Babcock, Bret Babcock, Rebekah (Cameron) Caryer, and Emma Babcock, 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Carol Knake and Marjorie Yackee. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, March 17 at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon where military honors will be accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veteran Posts. A time of fellowship will be held after the funeral at the Napoleon Presbyterian Church. A private burial will take place at Hockman Cemetery, McClure, Ohio at a later date. Memorial gathering will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 2-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Melanoma Research Foundation or the Napoleon Civic Center.
