Mary "Dee" Young

Mary "Dee" Young, 76, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away on February 6, 2016 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born on November 29, 1939 in John Hen Holler near Honaker, VA to Leemon and Harriet (Ramey) Gregory. On July 3, 1960, she married William (Bill) Young, who passed away on January 5, 2002. Dee was a homemaker, or as she called it, a "domestic engineer." She worked as a poll worker for many years on Election Day and used her annual earnings to buy her husband's birthday and Christmas gifts. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Napoleon and would use her "engineering" skills to bake some wonderful treats for various church events. She enjoyed being creative as a cook, a baker, a seamstress, a flower arranger, a gardener, a present maker, a knitter, or through any of her other many talents. She loved playing cards including Bridge with friends in Napoleon, Euchre with her grandchildren and Liverpool with her daughters. Dee loved sports especially during March Madness, US Open Tennis, and all of football season. She could never quite understand the game of golf, but enjoyed watching granddaughter Monica play golf in high school. She also thoroughly enjoyed her many opportunities to attend musical performances involving grandsons Trent and Trevor during high school and college. Survivors include her oldest daughter Saundra (Mary Bates) Young and her youngest daughter Renisa (Mike) Dorner, both of Perrysburg, Ohio and her grandchildren; Trent, Trevor and Monica Dorner; two brothers - Earl (Kathy) Gregory of Swords Creek, VA and Gary (Linda) Gregory of Honaker, VA; three step-children Mike (Smoke) Young of West Palm Beach, FI, Tom Young of Pataskala, OH and Joyce (Ken) Gortz of Crestline, OH; three step-grandchildren Christopher Young, Adam Knapp and Brian (Kayla) Knapp. She is also survived by some wonderful nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, sister Phyllis Andrews, two brothers Randolph Gregory and Curtis Gregory, and two nephews Phil Gregory and Rob Gregory. While she loved flowers, Dee would appreciate donations in lieu of flowers to one of the following organizations: Henry County Hospital, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Humane Society, St. Paul United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio on Thursday, February 11, 2016 with a funeral service to take place at 6 p.m. p.m. with a reception to follow.
