Larry R. Smith

Larry R. Smith, 70, of Malinta, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2017. He was born on March 10, 1947 in Highland Township, Defiance County, Ohio to the late Lee and Addie (Brink) Smith. On July 26, 1969, he married Rose Mary Gerken at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio. Larry worked 15 years for Chrysler Corporation in Perrysburg, Ohio. He then became the custodian at Patrick Henry High School in 1981 and worked until 2008. He was a part time farmer. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio where he was an Elder, Trustee, and a Sunday School Superintendent. He was a lifetime member of the Patrick Henry Athletic Boosters, Hamler Mens Club, Eagles in Ottawa, and was a social member at the VFW in New Bavaria. He enjoyed golfing and detailing cars and was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, and the Patrick Henry Patriots. He enjoyed all of his grandchildrens' activities and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved going to the Hamler Diner for his morning coffee. He is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Lori (Steve) Radcliff of Glandorf, Ohio, Becky (Jon) Nelson of Hamler, Ohio, Rachel (Derek) Woods of Malinta, Ohio and Sarah (Derek) Diller of Perrysburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Jared Nelson, Natalie Nelson, Austin Radcliff, Trey Woods, Luke Woods, Aubrey Diller, Seth Woods, Kasey Nelson, and Kylee Diller; brothers, Robert (Irene) Smith of Holgate, Ohio and Ron (Mary) Smith of Spokane, Washington; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings; William Smith, Dorothy Beckham, Linda Roehrig, Carolyn Sizemore, and infant brother, Earl Smith. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p.m. on Monday, May 29th at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
