John Arthur Saneholtz Jr.

John Arthur Saneholtz Jr, 70, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Harrisburg, PA on March 7, 1953, to John and Janice (Tribby) Saneholtz. John was a 1971 graduate of Napoleon High School and received a Landscape/Horticulture Certificate from Northwest State Community College the following year. On March 28, 1981, he married Rita Rae Higbea at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Napoleon. John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Napoleon. He was a member of the Bert G. Taylor Post 300 Sons of the American Legion. He also shot pool for Valley 8 Ball League for 40 years, shooting out of the Town Tap, Okolona Tavern, and Sager's Bar. He began his career working in road construction out of the local laborer's union. Following the recession in the early '80s, John worked for Valley Lawn and Landscape, Sand Ridge Nursery, and the Henry County Courthouse. Once John's brother purchased the Town Tap, John enjoyed assisting him as a nighttime bartender for the next 20 years. John was a firm believer in being a good steward of the Earth and practiced conservation and ecology. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, agronomy, and the outdoors. He especially liked outdoor barbeques and bonfires with his family and friends. John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rita; sons, Sean (Cassie Rickenberg) - Napoleon, Daniel (Amy) - Grove City, Ohio, James (Jennifer Sines) - Napoleon, and Nathaniel - Napoleon; On October 10, 2017, John and his wife became permanent Guardians of 10-month-old Lincoln Hesselschwardt; grandchildren, Alexia, Ethan, Eli, and Jade Saneholtz. John is also survived by his loving siblings: Mike (Vicki) - Napoleon, Carol (Ron) Sumner- Sammamish, WA, David - Seattle, WA, Jean (Charlie) Bremer Defiance, Joan (Tom) Borstelman - Napoleon, and Susan (Rob) Longstreth - Shoreline, WA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his middle son, Brian. Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM with an hour of visitation prior to services.
