Joel Gibson

On Friday December 28, 2018 surrounded by loved ones, Joel went peacefully home to be with his Lord and loved ones in heaven. In 1965, Joel met and soon married Judith K. (Bankey) on November 20, 1965. Joel is the proud father of three children; Catherine (Jeffery) Gribler, Douglas Gibson, and Daniel (Chicquetta) Gibson. He is also the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren; Kelly Gibson, Christopher (Melinda) Gibson, Jasmine Gibson, Katelynn Gibson, Dakota Gibson, Elizabeth Gribler, and Derek Gribler. He is also the great-grandpa to Dustin Gibson, Bentlee Gibson, Kingston Rettig, and Jayden Rettig. Joel was born in Dunganon, Virginia to the son of the late Sylvester and Rosie (Collins) Gibson. Joel moved to Ohio in 1965 and began working at the Campbell Soup Company where he worked for 34 years. Joel also worked for Huston Laundry and Cleaners, as well as, Rausch Lumber Company. Joel was a well-known member of the Napoleon community and was always seen in public with a smile and wearing one of his many hats. Joel loved spending time with his family at their various activities. Joel was also an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Napoleon. When not at various activities with his family, Joel could be found in his back-yard tinkering with cars and especially lawnmowers. Joel could take the worst looking mower, clean and fix it up and make it work like new again. As time wore on, he enjoyed setting in his front-yard where he spoke with countless family and friends. Joel was never at a loss for words or a story about something in his life. Joel never met a stranger, he would strike up a conversation anywhere at any time with just about anyone and he truly loved life to its fullest. Besides his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joel is also survived by and will be greatly missed by: his brothers; Claude (Linda) Gibson, Edward (Terry) Gibson, Lucian Gibson, George Gibson,and sister Maryann (Larry) Scarbrough. As well as sisters-in-law, Tammy Gibson and Connie Sell. Numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and many other extended family members. Joel was proceeded in death by his parents, two infant siblings as well as his brothers, Mac Gibson, Charles Fred Gibson, Robert Gibson, and sister, Betty Sue Caldwell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2018 at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio. Interment will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
