Jan C. Buckmaster

Jan Carolyn Buckmaster, 80, of Napoleon, Ohio died peacefully in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 15th, 2014 at Country View Haven, Napoleon. She was born on September 2, 1933 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Lester & Elnora (Moon) Gunter. On June 13, 1953, she married Bruce Buckmaster at the St. Augustine Catholic Rectory. Jan is survived by her husband, Bruce, children, Peggy Buckmaster of Napoleon, Max (Lori) Buckmaster of Whitehouse, Joseph L. Buckmaster of Dublin, and Candy (Stephen) Butler of Ft. Wayne, grandchildren; Shaunda Ford, Jason Buckmaster, Justin Retcher, Tiffany Knapp, Jennifer Carolyn Retcher, Ashley Buckmaster, Gaven Buckmaster, Jeremiah Buckmaster, and Jacob Buckmaster, great grandchildren, Aadon, Ashton, Blaine, and Cohen, and sisters-in-law, Mary Gunter and Mary Lee Brink, both of Napoleon. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, brothers; Don and Kenneth, and sisters, Wanda Keedy and Marilyn McMillen. Jan was coordinator for the Toledo Catholic Dioceses and Social Justice and Catholic Corrections Ministries of Northwest Ohio, 1993 CCNO Volunteer of the year, and a board member of Reach Up, Inc. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Napoleon and the Altar Rosary Society. She was very involved in the inception of several church events and activities. She was a Den Mother and member of the Council of Catholic Women, Napoleon Soroptimist Club and Henry County Community Boosters. She also was the District Director for Avon, where she recruited and taught area women. She was the 1986 Henry County Woman of the Year. Jan enjoyed working in prison ministry with her husband and traveling to, and minstering to, inmates incarcerated across the United States. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 20 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Napoleon. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Country View Haven or Hospice of Henry County.
