Harold Dale Barney

Harold Dale Barney, 86, of Deshler, Ohio died Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green, Ohio. He was born July 17, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harold and Ruby (Roadhouse) Barney. On November 24, 1948 he married Leola Browneller and she preceded him in death on April 5, 2005. Dale was a 1947 graduate of Hamler High School. He worked for over 30 years with the B & O Railroad, retiring in 1988. He also drove school bus for Patrick Henry Schools and Quadco. He was a faithful member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Deshler for over 50 years. He was always offering his time and assistance to numerous needs at the church. He enjoyed bowling leagues, coins, railroad items and many collectibles. He was a car enthusiast and was often seen at car shows or just driving through dealerships. Above everything, he loved his family and his role as husband, dad, grandpa and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was always trying to encourage laughter when you were in his presence. He is survived by five children, Wanda (Ron) Challen, Sidney, Ohio; Nancy (Jeff) Weber, Deshler; Terry (Bob) Gierke, Findlay, Ohio; Steven (Deborah) Barney, Ottawa, Ohio; Holly (Louis) Cornelious, Logan, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Sandra (Christopher) Kantorak, Karen (Michael) DeToto, Mindy Caplinger (Louis MacIsaac), Christopher Gierke, Stephanie Harper, Lori (Jason) Recker, Angie (Amber) Barney, Kellie (Joseluis) Guajardo, Cameron Cornelious, Collin Cornelious; 19 great grandchildren, Gabriel Kantorak, Gavin Kantorak, Griffin Kantorak, Dominic DeToto, Devon DeToto, Dylan DeToto, Daxton DeToto, Emily Caplinger, Jakob Caplinger, Matthew Gierke, Austin Harper, Alex Harper, Andrew Harper, Anthony Harper, Jordyn Recker, Grady Recker, Brooklyn Recker, Miles Guajardo, Xavier Guajardo; sister, Doris Detter, Toledo, Ohio and special friend, Mary Croach, Napoleon, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Roberta "Bobbie" Barney; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth Weber, Allison Weber and David Weber; and two brothers, Clarke and Cecil Barney. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Monday at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Deshler with Rev. Ruth Carter-Crist officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m on Saturday and from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
