Gary L. Buehrer

Gary Buehrer, 77, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2026, at his home and was reunited with his beautiful wife after a long fifteen years apart. Gloria (Good) was the love of his life and anyone who knew him, knows life was hard without her in it. He spoke of her to everyone he came into contact with. They were high school sweethearts and married on June 6, 1969, before Gary was drafted and left for Vietnam, serving in the Army as a mechanic. They adored each other with 57 years of marriage. His heart was broken without her, and he did not know how to do life without Gloria by his side. Gary was a selfless man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved doing things for others and never wanted anyone to fuss over him. He had the biggest heart which he inherited naturally from his mom, Elizabeth “Betty” Buehrer (Barnes), who was the epitome of kind with a heart of gold. She raised four boys, Gary (Gloria) Buehrer, Keith “Skeeter” (Nancy) Buehrer, Mike (Toni) Buehrer, and Roger Buehrer growing up in Wauseon and Napoleon, Ohio. Gary is survived by his two children, Cheri (Mike) Mitchey, Metamora, Ohio, and Chad (Peyton) Buehrer, Pataskala, Ohio. Cherished childhood memories where time was spent boating and skiing on the Maumee River, Florida vacations to Daytona Beach, visits to amusement, water parks and fairs galore, tinkering on whatever needed built or fixed, building floats for parades, setting up the perfect camper for his grandkids, and anything that involved racing and the sound of loud engines; which started at a young age drag racing in the streets and continued at Norwalk and MIS along with family motorcycle rides to Sandusky for bike week to enjoy the bands. But more so he enjoyed a leisurely ride on the open road with Gloria on the back or Mackenzie bungeed on in case she fell asleep. Oh and cannot forget making homemade ice cream on the back porch for the perfect birthday celebrations. And then came his greatest five joys, his grandchildren, who he absolutely adored and spoiled: Mackenzie Mitchey (Morgan Trick), Hailey Buehrer, Alivia Mitchey, Hayden Buehrer, and Landon Buehrer. Papa was a title he wore proud, and he cherished family time spent together boating at Coldwater Lake, Buckeye Lake, at French Quarters for family celebrations and on the sidelines as his grandchildren’s biggest fan always cheering them on at BMX races, soccer, track, marching band, and softball. Going to miss those walks around the block, watching movies, playing hours of school, father/ daughter dances, dinner dates, and blasting the music for a dance off to Black Betty on the pontoon or in Brian’s garage. Gary worked as a mechanic in his younger years and then as a shuttle truck driver/fork-lift operator at Clevite, National Can and Sauder Wordworking, Archbold, Ohio, where he retired. Gary was a member of the American Legion. Growing up he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and later Crossroads Church, Napoleon, Ohio, where he attended with his loving brother, Keith “Skeeter” and sidekicks/nephews, Kyle and Brian Buehrer, who undoubtedly will miss their shenanigans and congregating for OSU football games or any other reason to get together and share a good laugh. Gary cherished family time and will be missed dearly by his family and friends who adored him. Until we meet again, enjoy making up for lost time with your sweetheart Gloria, and sharing the perfect seat to smile down on your grandchildren, forever proud and their biggest supporters. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Buehrer (Good); mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Buehrer (Barnes); and brothers Mike Buehrer and Roger Buehrer. Gary is survived by his children Cheri Mitchey (Buehrer) and Chad Buehrer; his five grandchildren, Mackenzie (Morgan Trick) & Alivia Mitchey and Hailey, Hayden & Landon Buehrer; his brother Keith Buehrer; his nephews Brian Buehrer and Kyle Buehrer; his nieces Rhiana Buehrer, Crystal Hildreth, Kasey Hoover and Stephanie Arps; and many other dear family and friends. Funeral services for Gary will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14th, 2026 at Crossroads Church, Napoleon, Ohio. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio. Friends may call on Thursday, August 13th from 3-7 p.m. at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
