Durham Rick

Ricky James Durham, 50, of Napoleon, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Fulton County Health Center. He was born September 5, 1960 in Wood County, Ohio to Larry James and Terry (McCone) Durham. On October 9, 1982, he married Lynn Winover at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon. Rick was the owner and operator of Durham's Auto Service, a family business started by his father in Napoleon, Ohio. He graduated from Napoleon High School and Four County Career Center in 1978, and worked part-time prior to graduation at Snyder Chevrolet. He was a devoted husband and father who loved the outdoors, camping, and hunting. He was a proud member of the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department since 1983. He served on the parade and water ball committee for the NOVFA convention hosted by Napoleon and was one of five members who took first place in the NOVFA bowling tournament in 1984. In 1986, he became an EMT with Napoleon Rescue. Rick took the civil service test in 1993 and became a volunteer firefighter. In 2002, he accepted the position of temporary lieutenant and then passed the lieutenant's test to become a lieutenant two until he retired in December 2008. He served as president and secretary for the Napoleon Fire and Rescue association for 25 years. He was honored for the the most fire runs in 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1997. He received a multitude of commendations from the State of Ohio and City of Napoleon and recieved recognition from U.S. Rep. Robert Latta and Ohio Rep. Lynn Wachtmann for his 25 years of service. Rick was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon where he had served as usher for many years. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Terry Durham of Napoleon, his wife, Lynn of Napoleon and sons, Joshua and Jeremy both at home, and a brother, Kevin (Kelly) Durham of Defiance. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dawn Durham. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon with Pastor's Peter Marcis and John Holyer officiating. Interment will follow services. Visitation will be on Wednesday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon from 2-8 p.m. with a County Wide Fireman's Last Call Service at 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. The family suggests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon Fire & Rescue, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
