Constance "Connie" Cobb

Constance M. Cobb, 89, formerly of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Surrounded by the love of her family, Connie came to the end of a difficult journey with Lewy body dementia. Lovingly known as “Connie” to her many friends and simply as “GG” to her family, she was born April 29, 1937, to Robert and Evelyn Good of McClure, Ohio. When Connie was 8, her father was lost at sea aboard the USS Indianapolis. At age 14, her mother married Robert Mitchell, and the family moved to Napoleon. On May 5, 1957, Connie married her high school sweetheart, Richard Bryson “Dick” Cobb. Their marriage was a loving partnership that spanned nearly 61 years, until Dick’s death on March 12, 2018. Together, they raised four children and built a life centered around family, friends, faith, and adventure. Over the years, Dick and Connie enjoyed sporting events, boating on the Maumee River and the waters of Northern Michigan, camping, snowmobiling, traveling, and countless visits and vacations with family. Connie attended The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing before leaving after one year to marry Dick. Her desire to care for others, however, eventually brought her back to nursing. For 31 years, she worked as the office nurse for Dr. Wilson J. Stough in his Napoleon and McClure offices, retiring in 1994. Connie genuinely loved her work, and the affection was mutual—her patients remembering her for her kindness, compassion, and caring nature. Faith and service were important throughout Connie’s life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Napoleon, where she served as deacon and elder. After moving to Michigan, she attended the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Over the years she generously gave her time to numerous community and charitable organizations in both Napoleon and Northern Michigan. Connie had a lifelong love of gardening and created beautiful gardens at both her Napoleon and Michigan homes. She was also a published author. Together with her dear friend Jane Cardinal, she co-wrote The Place Where the Crooked Tree Stood, a history of the settlements of Good Hart and Middle Village, Michigan. Connie devoted herself to preserving the stories of the area, personally visiting, and interviewing more than 100 people while researching the book. One of Connie’s greatest gifts was her ability to make people feel welcome. She loved to entertain, and the homes she shared with Dick were often filled with family, friends, laughter, conversation, and wonderful food. Their retirement home, “Okatipi,” in Good Hart, Michigan, became a particularly special gathering place. During the 27 years they lived there, first as part-time, and later as full-time residents, Connie and Dick welcomed hundreds of family members and friends through their doors. More than anything else, Connie treasured her family. She leaves behind generations who will carry her love, stories, traditions, and memories with them. Connie is survived by her four children, Cathy (Mark) DeMichiei, Richard (Mary) Cobb, Robert (Ginger) Cobb, and Leigh Ann Babcock; her grandchildren, Jenna (Chris) Smith, Katelyn (Tim) Slechta, Justin (Amy) Cobb, Alex (Jessica) Cobb, Tyler (Jenelle) Cobb, Tim (Courtney) Cobb, Seth (Melanie) Babcock, Bret (Rachel) Babcock, Rebekah (Cameron) Caryer, and Emma (Blake) Graber; her step-grandchildren, Mike (Susanne) DeMichiei, Mariel (Kevin) Perkins, and Matt (Mary) DeMichiei; her sister, Sandra Johnson; sisters-in-law, Naomi Good and Marjorie Yackee, her dear companion, Gary Dodds; and her lifelong best friend, Mary Beth Stoltz. She is also survived by 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly. Connie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick; her parents, Robert and Evelyn Good; stepfather, Robert Mitchell, brother, Thomas Good; stepsister Julie Davidson; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Johnson, Andrew Davidson, Jack Knake, Robert McGeehan, and Lynn Yackee; sisters-in-law, Carol Knake and Mary McGeehan; son-in-law, Thomas Babcock; and grandsons, Jess Babcock and Carl Rohrs. Connie’s was a life filled with love… love for her husband, her family, her friends, her faith, her gardens, her communities in Napoleon and Northern Michigan, and the many people whose lives she touched. While her family will miss her deeply, they are grateful for the 89 years they were blessed to share with her and for the legacy of love and hospitality she leaves behind. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Napoleon, Ohio. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A private family interment will follow at Hockman Cemetery in McClure, Ohio. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Napoleon or the Lewy Body Dementia Association in Connie’s memory.
