Behnfeldt E. Robert

Robert E. Behnfeldt, 80, of McClure, Ohio passed away at his home on Monday, June 25, 2012. He was born on April 21, 1932 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Ernest and Hildegard (Bostelman) Behnfeldt. On October 16, 1954 in East Point, Georgia, he married Nancy (Walden) Behnfeldt who survives in McClure, Ohio. Bob, the always-busy man he was, worked as a farmer and was a manager at Neuhauser Hatchery for several years. He worked carpentry for Woody Light in McClure for a time, then for the next 20 years, he greeted people at the McClure Post Office as Post Master, retiring in 1992. After he retired and still feeling the need to help others, he drove bus for the Henry County Senior Center. Bob will always be remembered for his smiles, and hand of friendship to everyone he encountered. He loved his family, his country and his freedom. He was always a voice of encouragement to all. Bob served his country in the US Army and was a member of the Roberts-McMillen American Legion Post # 332 of McClure, a former member of the Henry County Fairboard, the Henry County Airport Board, a former Clerk for McClure, and a bus driver for the former McClure School. He was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in McClure. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, a daughter, Robin(Tim) Small of Defiance, anda son; Barry (Jenny) Behnfeldt of Napoleon, grandchildren, Erin Heilmeier, Bobby and Drew Small, Megan and Jenna Behnfeldt, brothers; Virgil (Jean) Behnfeldt of Haskins, Larry Behnfeldt of McClure and a sister, Carlyn (David) Northup of St. Augustine, Florida. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28 , 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McClure, Ohio with Pastor Mark English officiating. Interment will follow at Hockman Cemetery in McClure with military honors by the Roberts- McMillen American Legion Post. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m. at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to the Henry County Senior Center, McClure St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Henry County Humane Society.
