Austin "Spike" Lecklider III

Austin Allen “Spike” Lecklider, III, 79, of Napoleon died at his home on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Spike was born December 20, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Austin and Rufina (Vajen) Lecklider, II. On January 2, 1976, he married Sylvia Martinez, and they shared 45 years together. Spike was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He spent his entire career as a diesel mechanic working for Martin Diesel in Defiance and Miller Bros. Construction in Archbold; recently having retired from Martin Diesel. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon, where he was also a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Elks Lodge #929, BPOE of Napoleon, and an honorary member of the V.F.W. Post #8847 of New Bavaria. When not working, he enjoyed fishing, maintaining his lawn and hosting friends and family in his garage. He found joy and anger in following the Detroit Tigers and Lions, the Ohio State Football Buckeyes and the Gonzaga Basketball Bulldogs. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever possible, most notably when preparing a meal on his charcoal grill. On occasion, Spike enjoyed a cold beer and/or a nice glass of Scotch with good company (if you are smiling right now because of a fond memory or two, please consider yourself ‘good company’). He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children, Erika (Barry) Damman, Austin (Ashly) Lecklider, IV, Justin (Amanda) Lecklider; and, from a previous marriage, Dee Dee (Steve) Kirkpatrick and Dan (Stacie) Lecklider; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and, a sister, Janice Lecklider. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rufina Anne Harper, and his brother, Michael Lecklider. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 19 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home in Napoleon. The family suggests memorials to CHP Home Care and Hospice of Defiance, or to St. Augustine Catholic Church.
